Unambiguous understanding of the topic and understanding of the
logical progression of thoughts and inference is what characterizes
the deductive essay. It assumes the logical reasoning and
progression. People do deductive reasoning in the routine life
without consciously realizing it. Deductive reasoning is based on
the principle that it takes individual factors, evaluates factors
against the current knowledge and finally adds them up to reach the
conclusion.

For writing a winning deductive essay, follow these guidelines that
can prove immensely useful while
writing
the essay. Deductive essay consists of three parts:
1. Premise
It is a starting and basic fact or belief about some thing that is
used to draw the conclusion. There can be either single premise or
multiple premises for a given subject. For example:
• Countries having higher GDP and per capita income have higher
standard of living.
• Countries deficient in natural resources are impoverished nations.
• Drinking and smoking is one of the leading causes of stomach
cancer and death
2. Evidence
It is the information you possess regarding the topic. It is used to
provide strong arguments to support your premise. This information
is already available to you at your disposal. It can be a published
article, scientific
research and finding, statistical data or
any piece of information to prop up the premise. For example: The
premise states that “Countries having higher GDP and per capita
income have higher standard of living” this evidence is present in
the published statistics regarding the richest countries having the
highest GDP and PCI in the world i.e. USA, Luxemburg, France,
Germany and UK.
3. Conclusion
People of these countries enjoy the highest living standard. They
possess more disposable income than their counterparts around the
world. It is therefore concluded that these countries USA,
Luxemburg, France, Germany and UK have the highest GDP and PCI which
has resulted in the higher living standard of their citizens. Hence
premise is proved based on statistical evidence that” Higher GDP and
PCI leads to higher standard of living.
The standard format used for deductive essays is the same which is
generally followed for all types of essays. It differs is writing
approach only. In follows the introduction, body and conclusion.
