Astronomy Term Paper

The word astronomy has been derived from the Greek words astron which means stars and nomos which means laws, thus it is called “laws of the stars”

According to the Astronomy term paper, it is the study of natural objects that lie above earth’s atmosphere such as stars, moons, planets, comets, galaxies and nebulae etc. Astronomy is a natural science, specifically the branch of physics that studies physical laws, celestial bodies and the universe as a whole.

Initially, in the 20th century, the field of astronomy was divided into two branches; observational and theoretical. Observational astronomy was directed towards observations of celestial objects and then comparison of observed objects with basic principles of physics. Theoretical astronomy was the development of analytical models to describe astronomical objects and phenomena. In the 21st century, there are two branches of astronomy, optical and non optical astronomy. Optical astronomy is the study of celestial objects, which are drawn by hand while non optical astronomy is the study of objects using instruments like telescopes.
Astronomy term paper states that the development in the field of astronomy was not possible before the invention of telescope. It is the handy invention for astronomers to study the natural objects closely. But now the technology has expanded to spectroscope and photography. Today, Astronomy includes diverse disciplines such as astrometry, celestial navigation, making of calendars and even astrology.

There is some subdivision of astronomy, which are defined below.

Planetary Astronomy:
Planetary astronomy is the study of planet. It notifies about internal and external environment of our solar system and celestial objects.

Solar Astronomy:
In Solar astronomy, scientist studies the sun and examines how sun changes and how these changes effects on earth.

Stellar Astronomy:
The birth, evolution and death of stars are being studied in stellar astronomy. Astronomers use different instruments to study objects’ wavelengths.

Galactic Astronomy:
Galactic astronomy is the study of galaxies. It studies the motion and evolution of Milky Way which helps astronomers to understand about formation, structure and component of galaxies.

Cosmology:
Cosmology studies the formation and revolution of universe and its creation. It tells how our universe was looked like in the beginning and how it expanded to its present condition.

It is of course the work of astronomy that let the farmers figure out when to harvest plants for getting better results. It is the astronomy which tells us the relationship between seasons, length of days and nights, measurement of position of stars and moon and motions of celestial objects etc. study of astronomy makes you aware of things behind the scene and states the future of planet as well as human beings.

Astronomy term paper reveals that although astronomy’s scientific discipline has made tremendous efforts in understanding the universe as a whole, but still it has overlooked some important issues. Such as another life in universe and some topics from cosmology, Stellar Astronomy, Solar Astronomy, Galactic Astronomy, Planetary Astronomy which needs to be explored further for getting firm insight on astronomy.
