Andrei Chikatilo is known as the
“Butcher of Rostov” or “Russia’s Hannibal”. He was one of the
worst serial killers, who murdered up to 53 young girls and boys
in Russia, starting in 1982 and ending in 1990, when he was
captured.
Characteristics of the Killer:
Dr. Bukhansovsky, a leading Russian Psychologist, has done a
profile of Andrei before his arrest. He called the killer
Citizen X and concluded that X was not a homosexual and possibly
had a wife and children (Which proved true afterwards).
According to him, the killer was a necrosadist and felt some
form of dominance by mutilating his victims
Nature of His Crimes:
He was a serial Killer. He stalked his victims from train and
bus stations 500 miles away from Moscow. Where he took them to
his home and brutally killed them. He then made a concoction of
various bodies, boiling nipples and genitalia together.
He mutilated the genitals of his victims. On girls he would
gauge the breasts, and destroy the vagina, uterus and bladder or
abdomen. On boys, he would mutilate the penis, scrotum and anus.
Nature of his Victims:
Lyubov Biryuk was his first victim. She was murdered on June
1992 on her way to the market. All of his victims are young
woman and children of both sexes, raped and stabbed repeatedly
in a pattern of grisly overkill. Some victims have their tongues
bitten off; others were disemboweled. Repeated stab wounds to
the face were a specific trademark of Andrei but the mutilations
he inflicted otherwise appeared to follow no set pattern.
Andrei Chikatilo was suspected and arrested in November 20 1990.
After eight days of interrogation, he confessed 53 murders. He
went on trial in June 1992; four months later, on October 15 he
was convicted for the murders. He was sentenced to death and was
executed on 15th February 1994.
