For several decades drugs have been one of the major global
problems. Tribulations caused by Drugs are so wide that it was
proscribe ethically, religiously, socially and legally. This was a
rational and beneficial consideration, as substances such as these
can be addictive, mind-altering, and in some cases lethal. At
present, in most of the countries, many different drugs such as
cocaine, heroin, crack, ice and marijuana are illegal. But with the
passage of time ethics and laws are being measured and argued over.
One of such issues is the legalization of drugs.

It is clear that most of the serious problems the public associates
with illegal drug use are, in reality, caused directly or indirectly
by drug prohibition. One controversial solution is the proposal of
legalizing drugs. Although people feel that legalizing drugs would
lessen crime, but there would be an increase of drug abuse and a
rapid increase of diseases such as AIDS. So what should be done to
reduce the crime rate it should be legalized or it should remain
illegal to avoid the increase in drug abuse n AIDS. The question of
whether to legalize drugs or not is a very controversial and
important issue.
Ethical Issue About Legalization
‘Legalization of drugs’, dealing with an issue like this, one has to
draw upon his values to come up with a decision. Considering this
issues one cant avoid the significance of ethics and social values.
When looked at this issue one has to take into account his values
and apply them to this situation and then come up with his own
position, individually. Because each of an individual has different
values so it may not come up with the same position. Secondly values
are situation specific and each situation is different from the
next, and an answer for one situation may not be the right answer
for the next situation.
An individual has to look at all sides thoroughly and understand the
issue before he comes to a conclusion. We all are aware that each
drug has a positive or a negative effect, or how much these effects
affect the body even the drugs that are used in hospitals and are
prescribed by doctors.
To come to conclusions one has to take into account that we know
very little on the total long-term effects of drugs on the body.
History has shown that many substances, which were allowed to use,
later proved to be very harmful to the mankind. History provides
evidence that legalization of drugs in foreign nations has not been
successful. For example, opium was legalized in China earlier this
century. That decision resulted in 90 million addicts and it took a
half-century to repair the damage. (U.S. Department of Justice, Drug
Legalization)
Drugs are harmful to a person not only harmful but lethal. If it is
legalized today, what if after ten years this drugs legalization is
proven to be a blunder? Then what should we as a society does?
